Bairaha Braille Book (පොතකින් ලොකය දකින්න)

Books are one of the oldest and most widely used methods of information sharing. The information that books are shared among the society is wide and there is a part of the community which cannot read ordinary books. This information sharing task among the blind is done on a really small scale as they have the least concern in society relating to others.

A recipe book for the blind was brand new and first time in sri lanka and somehow, it was made into action.

Challenge

to remind the world about a particular part of the society and share the cooking experience with them and make blind citizens equalize with the rest of the society.

Insights

the united nations established world braille day (january 04) in 2019 to increase public awareness of the value of braille for enhancing inclusivity for blind and partially sighted people. There is a shortage of braille literature in sri lanka in almost all of the categories, especially those related to cooking and recipes.

How did it happen?

For the first time in sri lanka bairaha introduced a recipe braille book for blind people with 20 chicken recipes. The campaign was done specially for world reading month, to let the world know that reading is not only for the sighted but also for the blind. There were three categories under this campaign, braille book for fully blind, recipe

audiobook, and a large scale font for partially blind. The braille book, which was a main part of the campaign, was published and distributed among 18 schools and 5 libraries. The audiobook (https://bairaha.avant.lk/) was published on the internet, on social media, and on the Bairaha website. The users reported that the braille book has added a special value to their lives.

The campaign started with a teaser campaign, then there was a story-telling video during the launching of the bairaha braille recipe book. The video and the posts were shared among the viral pages and an online pr was also performed.
